Teradici: How to Add Flexibility to Production Workflows

Broadcasters today depend on secure access to powerful editorial workstations and Teradici’s PC-over-IP (PCoIP) solutions add flexibility to production workflows by offering remote workstations, accessible from anywhere, without compromising on user experience, according to the company.

Teradici Cloud Access Software (CAS) enables remote access of these desktops so you can be on-air ready, no matter what, the company says.

Businesses face various challenges today, Mirela Cunjalo, director of product management at Teradici, said Dec. 2 during the webinar “Powerful Remote Editorial Workstations For Broadcasting Professionals,” during which she and Kevin Brosnan, solutions architect at Teradici, shared use cases, customer stories and the latest noteworthy features of Teradici CAS.

Those primary challenges include, Cunjalo said: Valuable IP needs to be controlled and securely accessed; the pandemic has accelerated the need for an agile work environment; modern and mobile workforces are demanding offsite access; dispersed teams need instant access to shared files; there is a requirement for remote access to powerful editorial workstations with the latest compute and graphics processing unit (GPU) resources; and 3D models and other graphics-intensive content are ballooning and data sets take too long to transfer to local workstations.

“The number one thing… that everyone cares about is security – protecting sensitive data, valuable IP [and] making sure that it doesn’t get stolen or it gets into the wrong hands,” she pointed out.

Hybrid work environments have only made these issues more challenging, she said, noting that when data is downloaded at home to a local laptop, it’s hard to control where the data goes after that.

These challenges will continue, she predicted. Therefore, companies “need a permanent solution” that works for employers and employees alike on a long-term basis, she said.

The main benefits of Teradici’s solution are: It provides a high-performance user experience; it offers ease of deployment and management via a simple and reliable solution; it offers ultra-secure remoting and endpoint architecture; and provides the widest platform flexibility and complete multicloud support, she noted.

“We’ve always targeted end users who work on either graphics-intensive or video-type workloads [and] can’t compromise” on performance even when working remotely, she pointed out.

Teradici CAS is made up of three main components: PCoIP Agents (IT teams deploy remote desktops and workstations in any data center by installing PCoIP agents), CAS Manager (IT administrators secure, broker, provision and monitor connections) and PCoIP Clients (users access their remote machines from any PCoIP Zero Client, PCoIP-enabled Thin Client, PC, Mac, laptop or tablet).

Teradici CAS supports up to 4K Ultra High Definition resolution and up to four monitors, Cunjalo noted. Brand new is support for 5.1/7.1 audio out for MacOS and AV Sync, she said, noting it previously only supported stereo out).

CAS Manager is an extra component but you don’t have to buy another license, Cunjalo pointed out. It enables secure access to the user’s remote desktop workstation without having to set up a complicated virtual private network (VPN), she said, adding it also enables multifactor authentication.

Brosnan went into more detail on the technology used in Teradici’s solution and stressed that no business information ever leaves your secure cloud, data center or workstation with it. Other benefits include unrivalled image accuracy, he said.

One new feature that customers have been excited about especially has been PCoIP Ultra AV-Lock Precision Audio Synchronization, available now, he said, noting it “enables regulated synchronization of audio and video frames so when audio is playing, the video frames will be synchronized to align with the audio soundtrack.”
