STEM Advantage Holds Annual ‘Workforce of the Future’ Event Dec. 9

STEM Advantage — the nonprofit organization providing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career opportunities to California State University students — will hold its annual “Workforce of the Future” event Dec. 9, this time as a virtual event, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sponsored by the Women in Technology: Hollywood (WiTH) Foundation as part of its annual community donations to local charities, the event will feature senior executives from leading organizations as well as STEM Advantage alumni, in a discussion around lessons learned from hiring managers’ successful careers, and on driving diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices in workforce development, and will feature tips for recruiting high performing, diverse talent.

STEM Advantage Alumni will share their priorities when they entered the workforce, what attracted them to their current roles, and what motivates them to grow their careers.

Attendees will hear how last year’s workforce trends — AI, machine learning and robotics — quickly took a backseat to today’s virtual realities, with seismic shifts in public attitudes towards the racial and gender wealth gap, heightening unemployment, healthcare and more. How are companies defining success for their teams and what skills are they looking for as they hire new talent?

The event will feature a fireside chat with Pamella Raison, co-chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the Office of General Counsel at Farmers Insurance, and executive sponsor of the Farmers Women’s Inclusion Network.

The STEM Advantage Alumni Panel will include Karina Martinez, software engineer at The Aerospace Corp., Abanoub Ghaly, consultant at Accenture, and Alena Rose, compliance manager at AT&T, and will be co-moderated by Ceren Oney, industry marketing associate at Laserfiche and Danielle Yamane, cybersecurity engineer at Deluxe Entertainment

The event’s Executive Panel will feature Christina Shareef, head of diversity, inclusion and belonging at Reddit, Sharon Moseley, CIO at Kinecta Federal Credit Union, Tosha Pham, and CIO at Cal State LA, and will be co-moderated by Angela Gardner, partner for media, entertainment and digital practice at Heidrick & Struggles ,and Thomas Phelps, CIO at Laserfiche and adjunct professor at USC.
