Digimarc Barcode Scanning Capability Now Incorporated Into Honeywell’s Xenon 1902 Handheld Scanners (HITS)

Digimarc today announced that Honeywell has added Digimarc Barcode scanning capabilities to its Xenon™ 1902 handheld scanners to increase store efficiency and customer satisfaction and to decrease risk of injury to cashiers. Digimarc Barcode is a unique, imperceptible data carrier that is repeated across the entire graphics design of a package, and contains the same Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) information found in traditional UPC barcodes. Because it is essentially invisible to the human eye, the Digimarc Barcode does not take up any space and retains visual aesthetics of the package. Current placement of a single UPC/EAN barcode symbol on a package typically means that cashiers must lift and rotate packages to scan them, slowing checkout times and increasing fatigue and risk of injury, especially in the case of large, heavy items.

By incorporating the Digimarc Discover software as an optional capability, the Honeywell Xenon 1902 handheld scanners help cashiers scan Digimarc enhanced packages from any angle, yielding great efficiencies, reducing stress and risk of injury, improving operational efficiencies at front-of-store, and reducing the time consumers spend waiting in line.

“Offering the option to read Digimarc Barcodes with our Xenon 1902 handheld scanners brings added value to our customers who need high-performance, disruptive data capture technologies,” said Stan Zywicki, general manager, Printing and Scanning, Honeywell Safety and Productivity Solutions. “Our scanners have set a high bar by supporting traditional 1D barcodes, 2D barcodes and now Digimarc Barcodes. They are the ideal choice for retailers looking to enhance worker safety and improve the shopping experience for consumers.”
